Facts

Justin Verlander, Pitcher, Detroit Tigers

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: 6-time All Star; Rookie of the Year (AL); MVP (AL); Cy Young Award; Pitching Triple Crown (AL); Sporting News Player of the Year; Players Choice Award for Most Outstanding AL Pitcher; record for post-season scoreless innings (30) against one team (Athletics)

One of only 10 pitchers in MLB history to win the Cy Young and MVP awards in the same season, Verlander continues to display dominance on the mound for Detroit. JV has had the most wins and strikeouts in an MLB season on multiple occasions, and also been the AL E.R.A. champ and leader in innings pitched. He doesn’t do things the easy way.

Verlander is known for his deft pick-off maneuver, picking off seven base runners in his first full MLB season, and became the first rookie in history to reach 10 wins before the end of June. The rookie success Verlander enjoyed continued into his sophomore year where he recorded his first of two career no-hitters, when his fastball topped out at 102 mph. His second ‘no-no’ occurred in 2011 when he faced the minimum 27 batters, walking one.
